Interview Preparation: 1 – What are personal interviews:-

A – Definition of a personal interview :

  • It is a type of discussion that takes place between two people to achieve a goal, and it must have a goal, otherwise, it becomes just a personal conversation, and the person must be ready to accept unexpected events or reactions from the other party in the interview.

Note: Sometimes companies carry out personal interviews in major hotels for several reasons, including :
1- Providing a comfortable atmosphere for the interview parties.
2- To get acquainted with the behavior of the other party through his actions in this place.
3 – Recognizing the capabilities of the person away from the atmosphere of work in the company.
4- To give the applicant for the personal interview an impression of the company’s interest in him by placing him in a comfortable place with special capabilities.

B. The aim of the personal interview

  • is to collect the necessary information through face-to-face dialogue, and this information may include the results of the work, information, behavior, attitudes, opinions, values, habits… and so on. Therefore, good preparation for the interview helps in obtaining an appropriate amount of information that is useful in evaluating job applicants.
  • In some cases, the interview may be the only means of collecting information, and in other times the interview may be combined with one or more other data collection tools.

C – Types of interview :

1 – The standardized interview: It is the interview that is administered by means of specific questions, from which the dialogue does not deviate.
2 – Unstructured interview: It is conducted through a dialogue that is not restricted to specific questions, but according to what the situation requires.
3 – There is also an individual interview and a group interview.

D – Advantages of the interview:

  • Obtaining face-to-face information helps determine the validity of this data by analyzing the job applicant’s reactions.
  • The interview helps in exploring the different aspects of the personality of the interviewee and his impressions.
  • Flexible and helps the individual conducting the interview to choose the most appropriate approach to collect the necessary information.

C- Disadvantages of the interview:

  • It is costly and requires time to prepare for it, implement it, and evaluate its results.
  • The information obtained during the interview is through the interviewee’s understanding of the question and the interviewer’s interpretation of the answer.
  • The interview is greatly influenced by the interviewee’s background, skill, point of view, experience, and the interviewee’s reaction.
  • Some interviewees may need a long preliminary process to obtain useful information from them.
  • Sometimes the memory of the person applying for the job is not good and thus to convince the person who is interviewing him.
  • The information that is obtained from the interview often contains information that is not related to the topic and important information, and then you may need to reconsider it.

C – Follow-up stage after the personal interview. We will discuss these steps in detail in the following:

2- The stage of preparation for the personal job interview, which includes the following:

1- The job applicant’s review of the goal-setting information form, and we will present this form as follows: through its objectives.

Q1: What type of company would you like to work for? (private or public sector / large or small/traditional or modern/existing or new).

Q2: What kind of work schedule do you want? Regular or irregular / whether there are additional working hours or not / work takes place during the weekly vacation in the company.

Q3: What kind of work do you want? (In the office all the time/fieldwork / a mixture between office and field work).

Q4: What extent of work need to travel and the extent of your ability and acceptance of that? SH: What are the geographical characteristics of the job location for you? (City of a special nature/state or country (weather.

Q5: What level of salary do you want?

Q6: What other benefits are important to you? (Health insurance/insurance/profit sharing/vacations..)

Q7: How important are the personal characteristics and attitudes of the people who work with you to you at work and how does that affect you Q9: How many training or study courses do you need and why

Q8: What is your career path and career goals in 5 years from now

Q9: How do you expect your goals to match and agree with the goals of the establishment in which you work?

2- Personal preparation before the actual interview, which includes several important points:

a) Sleeping early with knowledge of accurate data about the company, its address, and means of access.
B) Maintaining a well-groomed appearance with the use of good non-permeable perfumes. C) Wear clothes that make you fit in appearance and that are commensurate with the nature of the job you are applying for.
D) Good preparation of your personal papers and their arrangement well.
E) Try to arrive well in advance of the appointment.
