The British Embassy Amman has a vacancy and seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual for the position of Humanitarian Programme Manager under Humanitarian, Inclusion and Protection Team, job grade Higher Executive Officer (HEO), on a fixed term contract for two (2) years.
This is an opportunity to work for the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) within the British Embassy Amman as it implements its new UK-Jordan Country Business Plan.
The successful candidate will join the Humanitarian, Inclusion and Protection Team with particular focus on the humanitarian sector. The post requires commitment to work with others inside and outside the Embassy to maximise UK aid and coordinate with adverse range of stakeholders. The successful candidate will be confident working at pace and multi-tasking to respond to changing priorities.
Duties and responsibilities:
In overall terms, the key objectives associated with this role are to ensure effective delivery of the following humanitarian programmes:
- Multi-purpose Cash Assistance to Refugees in Jordan (https://devtracker.fcdo.gov.uk/projects/GB-GOV-1-300540/summary);
- Jordan Protection Programme (JPP) Support to Vulnerable Refugees and Jordanians (https://devtracker.fcdo.gov.uk/projects/GB-GOV-1-301237/summary); and
- the Strengthening Societal and Economic Resilience in Jordan programme (https://devtracker.fcdo.gov.uk/projects/GB-GOV-1-301109/summary).
More specifically, the role will entail the following responsibilities:
- Manage finance related to programmes. Use a commercial mind-set and understanding of project budget drivers to support achievement of value for money (VFM).
- Ensure key partner/supplier deliverables are tracked in the programme delivery frameworks.
- Contribute to the development of programme risk strategies, focusing on mitigating the risk of fraud and corruption and ensuring other risks are addressed in liaison with programme team and others as required.
- Maintain programme risk registers, proactively highlighting and escalating concerns, risks and issues to appropriate level.
- Regularly updating delivery chain maps showing key issues and risks at each stage of funds movement.
- Contributing towards cross-embassy policy discussion on humanitarian strategy with teams across the embassy such as the Poltical team, Economy & Prosperity Team and also across other embassies in the region.
- Contribute to efforts to improve working culture and life in the British Embassy and delivering on selected corporate objectives. It is expected that up to 10% of the role will be devoted ot this.
- The jobholder will also be responsible for approximately £10m of expenditure per year.

This role is for a full-time employment, on a fixed-term contract for two (2) years. The successful candidate will be subject to a 90-days probationary period (as appropriate). The appointment is subject to satisfactory local and UK security clearances. The selected candidate must have a right to live and work in Jordan.
Normal working hours at the Embassy are Sunday to Wednesday 08:00-15:30 and Thursday 08:00-15:00. The Embassy operates a flexible working policy that allows staff to work different hours as well as allowing staff to work from home one day a week, based on operational requirements and agreement with the line manager, and in line with FCDO and Embassy policies.
